Startup Weekend is a global grassroots movement of active and empowered entrepreneurs who are learning the basics of founding startups and launching successful ventures. It is the largest community of passionate entrepreneurs with over 400 past events in 100 countries around the world in 2011.

All Startup Weekend events follow the same basic model: anyone is welcome to pitch their startup idea and receive feedback from their peers. Teams organically form around the top ideas (as determined by popular vote) and then it’s a 54 hour frenzy of business model creation, coding, designing and market validation resulting in a minimum viable product (MVP).

The weekend culminates with presentations in front of local entrepreneurial leaders where the top three teams are awarded prizes in addition to bragging rights and media coverage. 

First Prize

• Access to Innovate Calgary's Toolkit Series, one of the most reputed entrepreneur development programs.
• Opportunity to pitch to Robert Herjavec, star of CBC’s “Dragon’s Den” and ABC’s “Shark Tank”, at the Canadian Cloud Showdown on March 11th.
• Desk space for 3 months at Assembly Coworking Space.
• One-on-One mentoring with a C100 Charter Member.

Second Prize

• Leadership retreat at The Banff Centre.
• Desk space for 3 months at AcceleratorYYC.

Third Prize

• Mentoring session with Scott Valentine, VP Marketing, Solium Capital and early investor/ PR, Mobovivo.
• Mentoring session with Stephen King, President, Stephdokin.com, CEO, TCELab.com, and Executive-in-Residence, AcceleratorYYC.
• Tickets to AccelerateAB, the largest tech startup conference in Alberta.

All teams will received $1,000 worth of transaction credits on merchee to all participating teams to accept credit card payments and manage recurring subscriptions.
